This camping safari is designed to offer the same high-quality safari experience provided by luxury camps, with 4×4 game viewing escorted by top-class guides in exclusive wildlife conservancies, but at a hugely reduced price by staying in small basic adventure camps, “real camping” instead of the luxury accommodation of the expensive up-market tented lodges. Transport between the camps is by light aircraft to avoid long drives and create more time on the safari trail.
Take the 7.30 am flight from Nairobi to Selenkay Conservancy arriving at 08.10 am to be met at the airstrip and transfer on a 15-minute drive to the Gamewatchers Adventure Camp, with a brief game-viewing window en route (we'll arrange to pick you up from the hotel). Selenkay is located just north of Amboseli over the northern boundary of Amboseli Park and is established on lands leased from the local Maasai, with the aim of protecting the wildlife habitat. After check-in you will go out on a game drive, returning for lunch. Take a rest after lunch and then go out on an afternoon game drive to explore the Selenkay Conservancy. All the big cats have been seen in the Conservancy as well as elephants and a wide range of species including large numbers of giraffes, zebra, and antelopes. There are also less common animals to be seen such as the long-necked gerenuk, lesser kudu, and African wildcat. Dinner and overnight in the camp at Selenkay.
After an early breakfast spend the morning on a game drive in the Selenkay Conservancy, and later an escorted nature walk with Maasai guides. An escorted walk gives you an opportunity to explore some of the micro ecosystems that are missed when on a game drive. Around lunchtime, you will return to camp for lunch, buffet-style. In the afternoon you will visit a nearby Maasai Village where you will get to know more about the way of life of the Masai people before having an evening-night game drive, using powerful spotlights to seek out the nocturnal animals as you head back to camp in the dark. Dinner and overnight in camp at Selenkay.
Wake up to an early breakfast, and then drive through the bush into the Amboseli National Park for an all-day game drive. Here, you'll catch good views of Mount Kilimanjaro and close-up observations of elephant herds, as well as many other animal species. You'll have a picnic lunch at Observation Hill, a spot that gives you vantage views of the Amboseli Plains below- Return to camp in Selenkay Conservancy later in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight in the camp at Selenkay.
After an early breakfast transfer to the airstrip for the 08.30 am flight back to Wilson Airport (arriving at 09.10 am) to connect to the 10.00 am flight to the Masai Mara, arriving at 11.00 am. Upon arrival at the airstrip in the Mara, you will be transferred to the Ol Kinyei Adventure Camp in Ol Kinyei Conservancy and shown to your tent, before having lunch and relaxing in camp. The camp is usually sited in a shady setting in a grove of Acacia trees within the Ol Kinyei Conservancy, in Masai Mara, an exclusive 18,700-acre wilderness set aside as a wildlife sanctuary with a wide variety of species including all the big cats. The area has open plains, forests, rivers, and stunning views. In the afternoon you will head out on an afternoon-evening game drive in the conservancy to see some of the wildlife for which the Mara is famous. Return to camp for dinner and overnight.
Wake up at dawn and enjoy an early game drive in the conservancy. Be on the lookout for the big cats as the conservancy is home to a great number of cat species. You will return to the camp around 8:30 a.m for a late breakfast followed by an escorted nature walk and then lunch. In the afternoon enjoy another game drive in the Ol Kinyei Conservancy with a night drive as you head back to camp driving in the dark with a spotlight for the chance to see the nocturnal animals. Dinner and overnight at camp in Ol Kinyei.
Wake up to an early breakfast, followed by a full day of game viewing in the Masai Mara National Reserve, a community-managed game reserve that is home to the annual wildebeest migration, often described as the greatest animal spectacle on earth. The camp will pack a lunch box for you to be enjoyed out in the wild. Return to the camp in the late afternoon for dinner and overnight.
A final short early morning game drive in the conservancy followed by breakfast and then leave camp to transfer to the airstrip for your flight back to Wilson Airport, Nairobi. A representative from Kevic Tours will be waiting to transfer you back to your hotel or the JKIA if you are outbound. This marks the end of the 6 Nights of camping adventure and game drives in exclusive, less-crowded wildlife conservancies. We'll ask you for a brief review via e-mail after a few days.
