The best way to observe Kenya’s big five game species while exploring Masai Mara National Reserve is on a guided trip. This tour from Nairobi includes a private guide who will take you within close viewing distance of the animals you want to see, as well as transportation, hotel, and meals for guaranteed quality—no planning required. Upgrade to luxury lodging or additional activities.
At 07:30am, you will be picked up from your Nairobi hotel or airport, and following a briefing and other procedures, you will proceed (260km) to Masai Mara through the view-point of the western Great Rift Valley. Your ride continues into the Masai grasslands, arriving at the camp for check-in and lunch at 2:00pm. At 4 p.m., you will begin your first introductory game drive, tracking various animal and bird species that live here. Your guide will point out wildlife and explain their behavior and manner of life. At 06:30 p.m., return to the camp / lodge. Dinner and an overnight stay at the camp.
This day, you have the choice of beginning with a hot air balloon journey. A fantastic opportunity to see Masai Mara from above. This activity begins at 5:30 a.m. from your Masai Mara camp or lodge. The cost is $425 USD per person. After the one-hour journey, your guide will meet you and you will continue with your game drive in the park. If you are not going on a balloon flight, your day will begin with breakfast at the camp/lodge, followed by a lengthy game drive at 7:00 a.m. Today we will attempt to view all five of the Big Five (lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino, and elephant). The scenery is picturesque Savannah grassland amid undulating hills. The reserve is Kenya's best wildlife park due to its vast road and track network, which enables for observation and photography. Dinner and an overnight stay at the camp/lodge.
Early breakfast and check out from the camp / lodge at 7:00 a.m., followed by a game drive as we exit the park (if you stayed in the park). At 12 p.m., your lunch will be served in Narok town. There will be a store where you may buy mementos to remember your wonderful vacation in Mara. On our trip back to Nairobi, you have the option of visiting Lake Naivasha around 3:30pm. The boat voyage is normally one hour long, although it may be extended if you wish to walk on Crescent Island. When visiting the lake, remember to tip the boat drivers (25 USD per person). Return to Nairobi in the late afternoon. Drop off at the airport or your Nairobi hotel/accommodation.
